What is it like working in Greenwich?

Tourism is one of the most important factors in Greenwich’s economy due to its village-like feel and being the traditional location of the Prime Meridian, on which all Coordinated Universal Time is based. Evidence of the tourism boom can be seen in the construction of an InterContinental Hotel, the popularity of the O2 Arena and London’s first cruise ship terminal. The O2 arena means that lighting technicians, engineers and set designers are being recruited. Lewisham is home to Model Market, a late night food market that provides opportunities to caterers, chefs and bakers.

The University of Greenwich’s main campus is located in Greenwich, providing opportunities for lecturers and researchers. The borough’s close proximity to central London means that there is no shortage of opportunities no matter the career. With The National Maritime Museum and the Cutty Sark ship come job opportunities as conservation managers and receptionists. Thanks to Greenwich Market, locals get to use their creativity to sell their art and products, as well as their vintage clothing.

What is it like living in Greenwich?

The majority of Greenwich lies along the south bank of the capital’s river, stretching from Greenwich eastwards to Thamesmead encompassing Blackheath, Charlton, Woolwich and Plumstead. The ‘old town’ feel is great for families and young professionals, the only downfall is that it does not have a huge amount of retail stores. Greenwich is cheaper than one may expect. The cheapest rent for a two-bed flat is around £1,100 per calendar month.
