Our client, a pioneering biotechnology firm at the forefront of genomic research, is looking for a Principal Research Scientist specializing in Bioinformatics to join their team in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK . This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, providing a balance between in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. In this critical role, you will lead the development and application of advanced bioinformatics pipelines and computational methods to analyse large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. Your responsibilities will encompass designing and implementing bioinformatics strategies, managing and processing diverse data types, and developing novel algorithms to extract meaningful insights from complex biological information. You will work closely with biologists, geneticists, and data scientists to support research objectives and drive scientific discovery. Key tasks include data quality control, statistical analysis, variant calling, gene expression analysis, and pathway enrichment studies. You will also be responsible for presenting research findings to scientific teams and contributing to publications and grant proposals. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, with a minimum of 6-8 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in bioinformatics. A strong command of programming languages such as Python, R, and Perl, along with experience using bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, GATK, Ensembl), is essential. Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP) and big data technologies is highly desirable. Excellent scientific communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are paramount. You should be adept at translating complex biological questions into computational approaches and communicating results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
