Freelance Estimator - Substation
Location: Birmingham (UK-wide projects)
Rate: 600 per day
Sector: Power / Substations / Civils
We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance Estimator to support upcoming substation projects across the UK, with a focus on the Midlands region (Birmingham base). This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging and technically complex schemes, providing first-principles estimating expertise.
The Role:
As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for substation and associated civils works. You will work closely with project and commercial teams to deliver robust and competitive tenders.
Responsibilities:
- Develop cost estimates from first principles for substation and civils projects.
- Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Prepare bills of quantities, rate build-ups, and risk assessments.
- Liaise with supply chain partners to obtain competitive quotations.
- Support bid submissions and presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Provide input on value engineering and commercial strategies.
Requirements:
- Proven track record as an Estimator in power, substations, or heavy civils.
- Strong ability to produce detailed estimates from first principles.
- Good knowledge of UK construction methods, rates, and supply chain.
- Ability to work independently and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project programmes, ensuring works are delivered on time and in line with contractual obligations.
