**Scope of the role:**

**Main Responsibilities**
+ To be able to understand and interpret technical plans and direction by senior member of the team and carry out those tasks to the expected level
+ To rig, set up, focus and de-rig lighting and related equipment to the expected standard and within the expected time frame

Our Lighting Artists are responsible for lighting shots in Houdini using Arnold. The role focuses on delivering final renders that integrate seamlessly into comp, with attention to visual quality, render efficiency, and scene cleanliness.
Responsibilities:
- Shot Lighting: Light shots in Houdini using SOP-based workflows and Arnold.
- Look Matching: Match lighting style, mood, and continuity based on references or templates.
- Integration: Ensure renders hold up in comp by reviewing slap comps and render passes.
- Problem Solving: Address missing data, render issues, or workflow inconsistencies. Support the shot with problem-solving and strong integration across departments.
- Collaboration: Work closely with comp, layout, and FX to align lighting with shot needs.
- Optimisation: Keep scenes efficient and caches manageable for farm submission. Deliver noise free renders that match the creative direction of the show and that are production-ready.
- Scene Organisation: Maintain clean lighting scenes with clear naming and version control.
- Feedback: Respond to notes from leads and supervisors quickly and effectively. Be open to feedback and work iteratively to reach final quality.

What we are looking for:

- Solid grasp of AOVs, render settings, and scene management.

- Familiarity with USD/LOPs workflows in Houdini.
- Experience with render troubleshooting and lighting automation.
- Karma familiarity is a plus.

Requirements
The main responsibilities will be:
- Taking game scenes and lighting them to both a creative and technical brief.
- Help to drive narrative story telling through effective use of colour, light and mood. Using lighting to help convey emotional experiences.
- Working closely with the art team to improve workflows and processes.
- Collaborating with other disciplines such as 3D modelers and VFX artists, graphics programmers and level designers to create great AAA game experiences.
Experience and skills that would best suit this position:
- At least 3 years of experience as a lighting artist or equivalent senior artist role, working on at least one AAA title.
- In-depth understanding and practical experience of lighting in either real-time gaming engines or in high-end CGI productions
- A strong portfolio of work which demonstrates the ability to work with both realistic and stylised lighting/visual styles.
- An excellent understanding of composition and colour theory
- Experience using Unreal Engine would be an advantage, but not a necessity.
- Unreal Engine, or similar (UNITY, CryEngine, Frostbite, etc.)
- Maya
- Baked and real-time lighting techniques in modern game engines.
- Working knowledge of rendering engines such as Renderman, VRay, Mental Ray or Arnold would be useful.
- Compositing and colour grading experience is preferred.
