The growing V Studio team at Film Soho is looking for experienced and driven
Studio Lighting & Electrical Technician
to join our growing V Studio team
.
In this hands-on and highly collaborative role, you'll be positioned at the core of studio operations, managing the set-up, upkeep and repairs to the lighting, camera & LED wall kit that equips our state-of-the art virtual production studio. From commercials, indie films, high-end vehicle shoots and more, you'll ensure our studio equipment is in top condition and ready to perform for clients from all media industry sectors.
If you're a skilled-hand in electronics with a love for film and TV and an understanding of studio lighting, this is your chance to be part of a growing team of highly skilled and passionate individuals.
Ideally, the role requires some solid experience of lighting from either live events or film industry (at least 2 years) plus knowledge of camera equipment, plus good communication skills & teamwork.
This client-facing role will include a range of projects, and be located in-house in Soho in central London (no remote working). The successful candidate will also have adept video, computer & communication skills and have an interest in virtual production technology e.g. LED panels.
This not quite an entry-level role and is probably well suited to someone with at least 2 years of post-study experience. While the role will start as a contracted position, we endeavour to make a full time salaried job offer to the right person. You will report to the Head of Studio.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience in a related field (video/ lighting/camera)
- Maintaining a good level of technical knowledge in electronics, lighting & camera equipment & LED panels.
- Rigging & de-rigging studio-specific lighting equipment
- Inspection and maintenance of all electronic studio equipment
- Manage & maintain all electronic inventory for quality control
- Testing and cleaning equipment – including lights & LED panels, logging any defects or damages for rectifying.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, organised and safe workplace
- Liaise with visiting client crews and assist them on using the studio lighting.
- Work closely with the Head of Studio & resident VP Supervisor to host demos, client shoots and other production activities.
- Computer literate, with the ability to use Excel, Word, and Outlook confidently
- Experience working on live film / TV sets
Bonus skills (though not strictly required)
- IT knowledge – basic networking, using operating systems, and user interfaces for control devices that require resetting and testing
- Assisting with updating LED fixtures and control equipment with the latest firmware/software

Requirements
The main responsibilities will be:
- Taking game scenes and lighting them to both a creative and technical brief.
- Help to drive narrative story telling through effective use of colour, light and mood. Using lighting to help convey emotional experiences.
- Working closely with the art team to improve workflows and processes.
- Collaborating with other disciplines such as 3D modelers and VFX artists, graphics programmers and level designers to create great AAA game experiences.
Experience and skills that would best suit this position:
- At least 3 years of experience as a lighting artist or equivalent senior artist role, working on at least one AAA title.
- In-depth understanding and practical experience of lighting in either real-time gaming engines or in high-end CGI productions
- A strong portfolio of work which demonstrates the ability to work with both realistic and stylised lighting/visual styles.
- An excellent understanding of composition and colour theory
- Experience using Unreal Engine would be an advantage, but not a necessity.
- Unreal Engine, or similar (UNITY, CryEngine, Frostbite, etc.)
- Maya
- Baked and real-time lighting techniques in modern game engines.
- Working knowledge of rendering engines such as Renderman, VRay, Mental Ray or Arnold would be useful.

SENIOR LIGHTING TUTOR
Senior Lighting Tutors are key members of Mountview’s Production team, supporting the FdA, BA Top-Up and Postgraduate training programmes in Technical Production: lighting, sound, video and associated technical skills.
The post holder is primarily responsible for developing and delivering lessons in lighting across the full range of courses and supporting students on projects and production roles, as well as assessing student learning and progression in this area and contributing to the development and delivery of the Technical Production training curriculum as a whole.
Reporting to the Head of Production (Training), and working alongside other academic, technical and production staff, the Senior Lighting Tutor will ensure that students receive the highest possible levels of tuition, guidance and support, and that tuition is responsive to students’ individual development and the needs of the professional creative industries.
