Leading or working as an architect within a project team, you will be expected to deliver high levels of agile architecture expertise. **Your Responsibilities:**
+ Work with senior engineers and Stakeholders to elicit both Functional and Non-Functional Requirements, guiding more junior engineers through the process to document, estimate and prioritise customer requirement sets;
+ Work with senior engineers and Stakeholders to produce System Design Documents, such as both High and Low Level Designs and Operational Concept Descriptions;
+ Take responsibility for the implementation of large scale or complex technical solutions, working in multidiscipline teams to ensure appropriate levels of documentation and testing are undertaken prior to completion of any tasking. Coaching and mentoring more junior engineers in the tools, techniques and procedures being used to complete the task, Documenting and contributing these to the Knowledge Base or NG Centre of Excellence; Set
+ Set technical direction and standards for Quality Assurance across their own project, using standardised approaches as guided by Stakeholders or Technical Leadership. Undertake review of other engineer's work, ensuring work is of good quality and aligns to the standards set by the project;
+ Take responsibility for ensuring both your own and the teams tasking are completed on schedule and within budget. Working with Project Management and Customer Stakeholders to prioritise deliverables against financial limits (DevFinOps);
+ Take responsibility for the production of high quality User Centric Documentation, such as Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Security Operating Procedures (SyOPs), Support Guides and User Guides;
+ Lead the investigation of complex issues, problems and defects, reporting to the Tasking Manager to ensure relevant oversight before undertaking bug fixes;
**Your Experience:**
+ Experience working within IT Systems Design, Deployment and Administration, with recent roles in Technical or Team Leadership positions;
+ Certified to Professional level as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect, with additional relevant certifications in specialist areas
+ Demonstrable experience of designing, deploying and administering cloud based solutions across Amazon Web Service
+ Extensive experience of administration of Linux or Windows Operating Systems within large corporate environments,
+ Extensive experience of designing, deploying and troubleshooting IPv4 Networking
+ Experience Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform
+ Experience of administering Virtualised or Containerised systems in Docker / Kubernetes
+ Experience of working within complex or high security environments
In addition the following skills are highly desirable
+ Experience of implementing Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines as part of DevOps deliveries
+ Experience of DevOps working practices, such as Git Branching and release schedules
+ Experience of secure network architecture design andof configuring IPv4 routers and firewalls

About the role.

Solutions Architect - Primary function of the role
- Support the Senior Solutions Architect in ensuring that IT infrastructure is robust, secure, and capable of supporting its operational and strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement a strategic IT plan that aligns with the current and future operational and strategic needs.
- Design, develop and oversee the implementation of end-to-end IT solutions and systems; ensuring that different IT systems and process are integrated, facilitating smooth information flow and efficient operations.

- To assist and advise users and criminal justice partners with the modification of business processes to maximise the potential benefits of new and existing systems considering current business and ICT strategy.
- Identifies the potential impacts of different technological solutions on the organisation and assesses costs & benefits, feasibility, and alignment to business requirements. Develops or contributes to business cases and business models to assess solution options.
- Responsible for ensuring that requirements are correctly translated into the architecture specification.
- Horizon scanning for emerging technologies. Identifies business benefits of alternative strategies where appropriate.
- Responsible to identify potential further benefits within existing solutions.
- Participate in the Technical Design Authority to assess solution design to see ensure they align to the strategic, architectural, data protection and service management principles described in the IS Strategy and the organisation’s PoaP.
- Creates and updates architecture models as a framework for future development.
- Works with both business and technical stakeholders to understand the organisation’s needs and to articulate, in an understandable manner, the solution architecture.
- Maintain solution architecture documentation.
- Contribute to evaluation of tenders.
- Works with architects at the partner agencies to maintain the application architecture layer documentation and forecast future options.
- Represents the Senior Solutions Architect as appropriate and when required.
Solutions Architect - Essential Skills:
- Proven experience as an IT Solutions Architect, with a strong background operational architecture
- Significant experience of working within an enterprise architecture environment in a complex medium to large sized organisation, ensuring that technical projects align against the organisation strategy, architecture and governance objectives
- Experience of working with other architecture areas (e.g. Technical, Information) to achieve Solution Architectures that meet organisation goals.
- Experience of developing infrastructure and applications architecture in accordance with guiding design principles; preferably including Service Oriented Architecture.
- In depth understanding of solution design in the context of a strategic approach to solution architecture.
- Knowledge of product/service feasibility, proof of conception evaluation and selection techniques.
- Enterprise Architecture skills, typically comprising modelling, building block design, applications and role design, systems integration, etc
- Proven ability to logically map business functionality to applications and applications to infrastructure.

As a member of our Solutions Architecture group, you'll work directly with top-tier customers, scientists, and developers to deploy, configure, and tune the company's high-end suite of molecular modeling and informatics applications and related systems. You'll also maintain Schrödinger's internal scientific computing resources and work with highly skilled individuals within challenging software environments. In your conversations with our Product Managers, you'll be the voice of the customer.

**What you'll do:**
+ Ensure that our software performs optimally in the customer environment (which ranges from small on-prem server setups to sophisticated HPC and cloud environments)
+ Design and implement optimal deployment strategies and custom interfaces for integration with customer systems and technologies
+ Help customers tackle thorny technical issues by collaborating to create smart, efficient and effective solutions
+ Work closely with customers on the installation, configuration, and update/maintenance of on-premises or cloud-hosted installations of our scientific computing and enterprise software applications
+ Collaborate with product managers, developers and scientists, to improve deployment, support, and configuration of our applications
+ Partner with our global IT team to support and improve Schrödinger's internal infrastructure
**What you should have (or be willing to learn):**
+ Extensive experience with the Linux OS and proficiency in a scripting language like bash or Python
+ Research informatics background in the pharmaceutical industry or another scientific space
+ Experience with relational databases and SQL (developing, deploying and supporting custom ETL solutions is ideal)
+ Cloud computing expertise with at least one major resource provider (GCP, AWS, Azure), ideally with exposure to scalable computing and containerization technologies, such as Kubernetes
+ Deep understanding of web-based applications (i.e., REST APIs)
+ An interest in chem- or bioinformatics, material science, computational, or organic chemistry (a formal academic background in the natural sciences is a plus!)
**We'd prefer to hire someone who has:**
+ Advanced networking experience, e.g. DNS, routing, firewalls, proxies, VPCs, gateways
+ Good background in working with infrastructure as code and automation management
+ Solid understanding of HPC technologies (i.e., job management systems, networking, GPGPU computing, etc.)
