Our client is a leading organization committed to promoting sustainable tourism and seeks an experienced Sustainable Tourism Development Manager to drive initiatives and partnerships focused on responsible travel and conservation. This fully remote role allows you to shape eco-tourism strategies from anywhere, with a focus on enhancing the tourism sector in and around Plymouth, Devon, UK , and other key regions. You will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainable tourism strategies, policies, and action plans that benefit local communities, protect natural and cultural heritage, and minimize environmental impact. This involves identifying and fostering partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, NGOs, and community groups to promote sustainable tourism practices. You will lead projects focused on eco-certification, waste reduction, community engagement, and the development of sustainable tourism products and experiences. Market research and analysis to identify emerging trends and opportunities in sustainable tourism are crucial. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills, with a deep understanding of sustainability principles and the tourism industry. Experience in developing and implementing conservation or environmental projects is highly desirable. You will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of sustainable tourism initiatives, reporting on progress, and ensuring alignment with global sustainability goals. Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts of tourism.
  • Provide training and capacity building to tourism stakeholders on sustainability principles.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental and tourism regulations.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and presentations on sustainable tourism initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at relevant conferences and networking events.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Tourism Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in tourism development, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing sustainable tourism strategies and projects.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental management, and conservation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Strong analytical, research, and report writing skills.
