About the Job
Public service pensions form a significant share of public spending, with liabilities of £1 tn and over 0bn spent on pensions and lump sums annually. They are also a major part of public sector remuneration, providing members with a guaranteed, price-protected income in retirement that is fully backed by the Exchequer.
In this role, you will:
- Establish yourself as a centre of expertise in a complex and technical policy area, building an understanding of the public service pensions system and how it interacts with public spending, fiscal flows and wider public sector remuneration policy.
- Develop strategic advice on public service pensions policy, clearly communicating the risks and trade-offs of policy issues to senior managers and Ministers.
- Engage across Whitehall and devolved administrations to build and maintain strong relationships with a network of departmental pension leads.
- Support the government’s defence of legal cases in a highly litigious policy area, by providing your expertise to workforce departments and working closely with the Government Legal Department.

What You'll Be DoingThe Service Designer will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team leading on the strategic design, prototyping and build of excellent public services. What You'll Be Doing
The Service Designer will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team leading on the strategic design, prototyping and build of excellent public services. You’ll collaboratively build cross-government services that are user-centred, equitable, sustainable and accessible, helping to identify and solve population scale problems, focussing on the design of services at scale.
In frog we’re building a new capability to work at the cutting edge of policy design. We need strategic service designers that understand the policy lifecycle and how to: test iterate and improve policy in the same way you would a digital service. An Overview Of The Role
As a service designer, you’ll be an expert in:
- Zooming out on the wider context, focus on policy outcomes and zoom in on what people need
- Designing in a user-centred way, understanding user needs and advocating for people in the design process
- Agile ways of working, working in multidisciplinary teams and being able to work to GDS standards are a hygiene factor
- Working towards justice, equity and inclusion in the teams you work with and the services you help deliver
- Working towards environmental sustainability of government and its services
- Leading the design of services and supporting the wider organisational objectives and strategic priorities
- Working with other specialists to design and create organisational, policy and financial structures that support service delivery of good services
- Using reflective and critical thinking; challenging assumptions and asking questions; to support government to do better and deliver better services
- Using evidence from research and data to inform design and management decisions, and use evidence to engage with senior stakeholders
- Analysing failure within services and identify root causes for that failure; find opportunities for reducing complexity and reducing cost
- Designing collaboratively and in the open, engaging stakeholders in the design process in a variety of ways, including workshops, design sprints and other co-design methods
- Visualising and mapping services, sketch and prototype ideas
- Guiding, supporting and mentoring other designers and colleagues
- Educating colleagues in user-centred design and service design when necessary
- Contributing to, and helping maintain and grow the design community, sharing patterns and approaches with others

This role is pro rata so the salary you will be receiving is £20,014.23 – £21,364.53 per annum. For any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST
The Personal Learning Advisor (PLA) is responsible for delivering tutorials to groups of learners and individuals to meet study programme requirements. This includes monitoring the progress of students, delivering the pastoral tutorial programme; and providing support by signposting the students to other support services in the college. PLA’s will work with a defined caseload of individuals and cohorts of learners.
The PLA will report directly to an identified Head of Department and receive direction, support and supervision from the Tutorial Manager for tutorials for standardisation of practice, training and development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that the College tutorial entitlement is available to all their students and that pastoral support is delivered as appropriate. The main duties of a PLA are:
- Pastoral tutorial support.
- Attendance and lateness monitoring.
- Follow up on poor behaviour identified on the Tutorial Notification Form.
- Act as a conduit to facilitate access other student services in the College such as learning support, counselling and welfare.
- Maintaining the electronic tutorial records and ‘At Risk Register’.
- Ensuring cross-College surveys are completed as required.
- Supporting the development of the College’s behaviour framework.
- Supporting the development of employability skills via work placements and enterprise opportunities.
- Supporting career progression to university, an apprenticeship, employment or other destinations.
- To constantly improve attendance, punctuality and retention for all students.
- To attend college delivered ‘Teaching Essentials’ training
