About the Role

As an SEN Primary Teacher at Claystone School, you will inspire and support pupils with ASC and complex needs to reach their full potential. The role:   

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our in-house clinical team at Papworth Hall school. Working collaboratively with the education team, you will deliver bespoke Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent or have SEMH needs. You will work within the standards provided in the OFG Occupational Therapy Ways of Working. This will guide your practice within an education setting and clarify your roles and responsibilities, while taking into account the requirements of your governing and professional bodies. You will be given responsibility for holding an occupational therapy caseload, with the full support of your designated clinical supervisor and site lead, also contributing to staff training and consultation as required This post would suit a resilient, creative and enthusiastic individual.

Essential Criteria:   

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy degree 
  • Valid and up to date HCPC Registration 
  • Registered member of RCOT 
  • Relevant experience in providing occupational therapy services within a similar setting is preferrable
  • Previously engaged with people who are neurodivergent and/or experience learning difficulty and/or socio-emotional and mental health difficulties in any setting, being able to evidence transferrable skills
  • Sound knowledge and clinical understanding of OT theory and its practical application to support independence
  • Experience of multi-professional work with teams or services within the designated speciality preferred
  • Ability to work independently, flexible and confident
  • Clear and concise report writing skills
  • Hold a full UK driving licence, with access to a car 
  • Interest in sensory integration or sensory-informed practice (SI practitioner training in progress or completed is preferrable, however not essential)

The role:   

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our in-house clinical team at Papworth Hall school. Working collaboratively with the education team, you will deliver bespoke Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent or have SEMH needs. You will work within the standards provided in the OFG Occupational Therapy Ways of Working. This will guide your practice within an education setting and clarify your roles and responsibilities, while taking into account the requirements of your governing and professional bodies. You will be given responsibility for holding an occupational therapy caseload, with the full support of your designated clinical supervisor and site lead, also contributing to staff training and consultation as required This post would suit a resilient, creative and enthusiastic individual.

Essential Criteria:   

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy degree 
  • Valid and up to date HCPC Registration 
  • Registered member of RCOT 
  • Relevant experience in providing occupational therapy services within a similar setting is preferrable
  • Previously engaged with people who are neurodivergent and/or experience learning difficulty and/or socio-emotional and mental health difficulties in any setting, being able to evidence transferrable skills
  • Sound knowledge and clinical understanding of OT theory and its practical application to support independence
  • Experience of multi-professional work with teams or services within the designated speciality preferred
  • Ability to work independently, flexible and confident
  • Clear and concise report writing skills
  • Hold a full UK driving licence, with access to a car 
  • Interest in sensory integration or sensory-informed practice (SI practitioner training in progress or completed is preferrable, however not essential)

  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and maintain outstanding standards in safeguarding, health, safety, and educational outcomes.
  • Work with SLT, the Governing Body, and Regional Director to drive school improvement.
  • Promote partnerships with pupils, families, agencies, and the community to support holistic development.
  • Integrate therapeutic approaches into the educational framework.
  • Manage budgets and resources to support strategic priorities and sustainable growth.
  • Lead recruitment, retention, and staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Maintain robust communication with all stakeholders.
  • Represent the school in local authority and national forums.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and NPQH (or equivalent senior leadership qualification).
  • Proven leadership experience in special education, ideally with ASC and complex needs.
  • Exceptional strategic, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Ability to inspire, empower, and develop staff through coaching and mentoring.

About the School

Our brand-new Options Autism school – Claystone School in Luton, Bedfordshire – is designed to support up to 48 pupils aged 4–11, providing a nurturing and specialist environment for children with ASC and complex needs.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading our sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in our care.
