About the role
Imperial College London, one of the world's foremost centres for research and teaching in the Natural and Physical Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, and Business, invites applications for up to 3 permanent faculty member positions at Assistant/ Associate Professor level, starting in the academic year.
The appointee will conduct research, teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in any area of Life Sciences , at the following scales:
- Molecules and cells
- Tissues and organisms
- Ecology, sustainability and planetary health

As we are looking for candidates in all areas of Life Sciences, please choose the stream you feel is closest to your research, even if it is not an exact match or even if you feel your research would fit into several of these scales.

What you would be doing
Research
- To develop a broad range of research within the department.
- To supervise, train and mentor research staff and students.
- To manage research projects.
- To publish research in peer reviewed journals.
- To attend and present work at national and international conferences.
- To collaborate and strengthen links with colleagues within the Department of Life Sciences and across all departments.
- To play a role in the national and international research community and/or learned societies.
Education
- To teach at all levels - undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees - through lectures and seminars
- To examine courses at all levels - undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees - exam setting, coursework setting, marking and viva style examinations
- To mentor students of all levels, undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees through personal tutorials, and supervision.
- To contribute to curriculum development.
- To contribute to the enhancement of teaching within the field.
Contribution to the running of the department and college
- To participate in the planning and objective setting process for the department and campus
- To show initiative in managing your individual performance and academic group
- To contribute to the leadership of academic teams, the department, Faculty, College, and national/international initiatives commensurate with the grade of your post and as directed by the Head of Department.
- To work collaboratively with all members of the department and other parts of the college.
- To attend relevant academic or management committees

Essential requirements
- A PhD (or equivalent) in Life Sciences or a related discipline.
- A proven track record in conducting high quality independent research, as evidenced by high quality publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Experience of training undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Experience of preparing grant applications for submission
- Experience of developing skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues
- An effective communicator, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively to a range of audiences through a variety of methods and media.
- An ability to raise significant research funding from a variety of sources, commensurate with your career stage.
