Job Description
Senior UX Designer GDS Experience Needed
£50-70kpa + Bens
HYBRID/LONDON (2 days onsite)
Designing Services that protect National Security
Valid SC Clearance or past SC Clearance is a must
We are working with a trusted global innovator with over 100,000 professionals in 50+ countries, helping them find a Lead UX Designer with GDS experience to deliver transformation within a design studio dedicated to humanising complexity. The studio combines Strategy, Technology, and Design to create meaningful, inclusive, and impactful services that improve lives and systems.
The Role
As a UX Designer , you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping public-facing services across the UK government. You will lead end-to-end UX delivery in agile, multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that the services we design are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with user and business needs.
You will work across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases , leading the development of digital experiences that meet GDS service standards . From mapping user journeys to producing high-fidelity prototypes, you will guide clients and teams toward evidence-based decisions. You will also help define and maintain a consistent UX strategy across products and ensure design intent is preserved through development.
You’ll get to work on apps and services used by thousands (sometimes millions) of people. It’s the kind of work where your decisions have real impact and where getting it right matters.
You won’t be working alone as there are cross-functional squads alongside engineers, researchers, service designers and product managers to collaborate with. The design team is around 30+ people strong, and the culture is built where people share, support each other, and push to do things better.
What you’ll bring
- Around 5+ years designing digital products for web and mobile in the Government sector
- You’ve got an eye for detail, and care about how things look and feel
- You’ve got a solid portfolio — we’re more interested in how you think than just polished visuals
- You’re confident using Figma or similar tools (Sketch, XD, etc.)
- You can prototype ideas and explain your thinking clearly
- You’re comfortable across UX and UI, roughly 60/40 split
- You’ve done the full process before: research, wireframes, testing, final UI, dev handover
- You know how to work with data and user feedback to make better design decisions
- You’re good with clients and stakeholders, you listen well, explain clearly, and build trust
Nice to have (but not essential):
- You’ve held SC clearance before, or would be eligible for it
- You understand accessibility and why it matters
- You’ve worked in agile teams before
- You’ve got a bit of HTML/CSS/JS knowledge — you won’t need to code, but it helps in dev chats
- You’ve used analytics or session data to improve UX
