Software Testing & Automation Specialist - Web Ecommerce- Contract
Location: Hammersmith (4 days on site, 1 day remote)
Rate: 500 - 650 per day (to Umbrella)
Contract Length: 6 - 12 months
We're looking for an experienced Software Testing & Automation Specialist to join the digital product team and design and implement from scratch an automated UI testing framework for a bespoke ecommerce / complex web platform as the sole test consultant. The role focuses on designing and implementing a UI acceptance testing strategy and automation solution for a bespoke ecommerce platform built on a Microsoft .NET stack, currently tested manually by engineers and product owners.
You'll deliver a maintainable, pragmatic, and scalable automation framework that enables the team to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance release quality while ensuring it can be easily maintained and extended by non-specialists/non testers once your contract ends. Successful candidates must have similar experience in designing and implementing from scratch an automated UI testing framework for ecommerce / complex web platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse current manual testing processes and identify opportunities for automation.
- Recommend and implement automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, BrowserStack, Testim).
- Design and configure an automated testing framework for functional and regression testing.
- Develop reusable test cases, templates, and clear documentation.
- Train and support team members to maintain and extend automated tests.
- Provide reporting on coverage, outcomes, and defects.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in both manual and automated testing.
- Strong background in designing and implementing automated UI testing frameworks for ecommerce or complex web platforms.
- Previous experience leading the design and build of automated testing frameworks from scratch (Greenfield).
- Expertise in at least one automation tool or framework.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating testing into release cycles.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Collaborative, self-motivated, and able to deliver outcomes independently.
