Finance Assistant - Cambridge

Circa:

Salary - Salary Plan, 32,290.00 GBP Annual (Prorated: 23,064.75)

Join our Financial Operations Team as a Finance Assistant in this part-time position (4 days a week, 25 hours per week), where you'll play a vital role supporting our sales invoicing and accounts receivable operations. Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for processing financial information accurately while meeting monthly reporting deadlines.

This is fixed term position of up to 12-months covering maternity leave.

In this role, you will:

  • Review and prepare sales invoices for customers across multiple sales platforms.

  • Assess sales orders for approval, ensuring they contain the correct accounting information, and have applied the correct VAT treatment.

  • Manage the customer refund process.

  • Support all internal RSC sales administrators with any queries.

  • Assist with any financial reporting required by the finance team or the wider RSC.

  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve queries.

  • Assist in the review of the sales ledger.

  • Monitor the shared sales invoicing mailbox and respond to all queries and requests.

What we are looking for:

Essential:

  • A good understanding of double-entry accounting.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • A clear understanding of key procedures in the Finance Department, and able to explain these to stakeholders and ensure that they are always adhered to.

  • Able to work to the requirements of detailed daily, weekly, and monthly accounting cycles and deadlines ensuring that internal and external customers’ needs are met.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Accounting Systems (Oracle NetSuite).

  • Knowledge of VAT treatment for international sales.

You will be an in-house expert on key policy issues impacting the chemical sciences. This is an exciting, fast-paced role, offering you the opportunity to work on topical policy issues and scope cutting-edge policy research, in order to support chemistry and the chemical sciences to make a difference.  You will manage policy research, analyse a range of evidence, manage relationships, develop recommendations and work with stakeholders to influence policy in areas relevant to the chemical sciences.

You will lead on new and ongoing projects including responses to government and work with other teams throughout the organisation, including membership, careers and professional standards, education, industry, parliamentary affairs and communications.

The role is available on a full-time or potentially on a part-time basis (minimum of 28 hours) if role requirements can be met. The contractual base for this role is Cambridge or London.

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. It is expected that you will attend the office one day per week, with the addition that you may need to attend more regularly for in-person events and meetings. Knowledge and skills required

Essential:

  • Policy knowledge : a strong understanding of how UK public policy is made, a first degree in science, economics (or a related field) or equivalent experience and a good working knowledge of the skills landscape, innovation in science, small and medium enterprises and/or policy.

  • Analytical : ability to seek and evaluate detailed, complex quantitative and qualitative information and to make recommendations and judgements on the basis of this evidence

  • Influencing and partnering : ability to build and maintain productive working relationships inside and outside your organisation, to interact effectively and to influence policy, people and decision-makers across a range of levels, sectors and relevant organisations.

  • Communication : ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with policy and other audiences, to write high quality material to tight deadlines and to organise effective interviews, focus groups, workshops and other large meetings for the purpose of gathering evidence and input.

  • Innovating and problem-solving : a proactive approach to solving problems, developing new approaches to your work, delivering to challenging deadlines including effective project and task planning effectively prioritising across multiple projects and deadlines.

Desirable:

  • An academic or professional background which demonstrates a significant knowledge or experience of chemistry or chemistry related sectors

  • Demonstrable understanding of the impact public policy has on chemistry research, chemistry-intensive companies and the chemistry workforce.

  • Direct experience of working in a relevant role in the civil service the wider public sector, in higher education or a research organisation, a relevant charity, or in a think tank.

  • Proven ability to manage contracts and external contractors.

The role involves contributing to the strategic development of the journals through day-to-day communication with the suppliers to ensure that the journals’ articles accepted into publication meet our high standards. You will play an essential role to support the journals production team.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the production workflow to ensure journal articles are published to agreed timescales and budgets.

  • Apply your science and English language skills to carry out quality control checks on our external suppliers’ copyediting work.

  • Keep the Supplier and Technical Production Manager, Journals, up to date with supplier performance data.

  • Be a trusted adviser for our external suppliers by providing guidance, responding to their production queries and providing regular performance feedback.

  • Act as a point of contact between RSC journals’ editorial teams and external suppliers and between authors and external suppliers, communicating issues and responding to queries.

  • Be encouraged to apply your knowledge of our production processes to identify problems and suggest solutions.

  • Have the opportunity to lead or contribute to projects within the team or on a wider scale with other teams across the journals department.

The successful candidate will receive full on-the-job training.

  • A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred).

Description: We are looking for a motivated marketing professional with a passion for the Creative and Cultural Industries who thrives on delivering multiple campaigns for projects and events for a wide range of managers, and understands our values and focus for the City and our audiences. The Marketing and Communications Manager leads the team responsible for all marketing, communications, fundraising, and audience development activity across the Cultural Services team for Cambridge City Council. This includes Cambridge Corn Exchange and Guildhalls, the City Events Programme, and Creative Partnerships as well as a supportive role for the Cambridge Folk Festival.The role plays a key part in shaping how these events and initiatives are presented to the public, ensuring they reach diverse audiences and contribute to the city’s cultural life. The postholder will lead the team on press, PR and the development of sponsor relations.Working closely with colleagues across the Cultural Services team, the position will develop and deliver marketing strategies for a wide range of live events and programmes, attract new audiences, and maintain engagement with existing ones. They will oversee all communications activity, including press, PR, digital content, and brand identity, while supporting fundraising and partnership initiatives that enhance the reach and impact of cultural programmes.
