What will I be doing?

You’ll be:

What do I need?

You’ll need:

  • NVQ3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent qualifications with appropriate experience
  • It’s essential that you have a full category B driving licence, with 6 points or less
  • To be happy working shifts, which could include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

You will teach full-time students in our fully kitted Motor Vehicle workshop, with a new EV workshop beginning construction as part of our new build project. As an experienced Motor Vehicle teacher or Technician, you will be required to teach learners in full time study and across all the levels of Motor Vehicle.  You will be required to teach the following types of programmes:

  • 16-18-year-old Study Programmes
  • 19 plus learners who are on Study programmes

You will provide an excellent learning experience to ensure the individual learner gains the appropriate skills in readiness for further study, employment or apprenticeship.

What You Will Do

The successful candidate must have a passion for Motor Vehicle and the ability to enthuse and motivate technicians of the future. Previous experience of working with young people would be advantageous. You must have the drive, determination, and desire to make a difference to young people's lives through education.

  • You will provide current, specialist subject expertise in a skills shortage area for teaching delivery.
  • Maintain links with the sector and help ensure the curriculum content reflects the latest industrial or professional practice.
  • Ensure the curriculum delivery team are aware of the latest developments within the sector and have recent CPD and industrial updating.
  • Prepare and teach on a range of Motor Vehicle Service, (PHEV, Electrical Vehicle,) and Repair courses.
  • Contribute to aspirational teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Keep accurate records for learners’ progress in college.
About You
  • Possess, or be willing to work towards a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE). 
  • Hold a relevant vocational / technical qualification or degree in teaching subject.
  • Relevant recent experience in the subject sector area and clear expertise.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge.
  • Recent delivery in the Further Education, training or school sector.
  • Have an appreciation of relational practice.

This role is a part-time, reduced year role. You will be working 22.5 hours per week over 3 days, from 8:30am - 4:30pm. It is term time only with an additional week for CPD.

Harrogate College SEND Department is a small, friendly team of professionals working to support students with needs across our variety of learning programmes. We provide help in class to scaffold learning, mentoring for those struggling with the social and emotional demands of college life, referrals to external and internal professionals for assessment (including for exams access arrangements) and work hard to ensure the inclusion of all our learners, particularly those with an Educational, Health and Care Plan.

This enables us to maximise the learning outcomes of all our young people with Special Educational Needs with a view to their gaining employment in their chosen vocation and prepare them for their onward journey into adulthood.

Luminate Education Group has been appointed as a Centre for Excellence in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).

What You Will Do
  • Providing in and out of class support to meet identified need of students who have high needs.
  • Providing curriculum teachers/assessors and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on students who have high needs or SEND and feedback against strategies used and progress towards outcomes on the EHCP.
  • Attend annual reviews as requested and attend student meetings as required to update on progress and behaviours.
  • Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary. Support students whom are less mobile and may use wheelchairs.
