This role is to focus on the key aspect of M&E systems and ensure their accurate operation and maintenance providing a firm platform for business success.
Shifts will be 7am to 7pm & 7pm to 7am = a 42hr week.
What you'll do
- Be part of a flexible team maintaining mechanical and electrical systems to avoid disruption to Sky's operations.
- Chilworth and Fair Oak are Sky's only two satellite uplink sites in the UK. Between Chilworth and Fair Oak, all of Sky's satellite broadcasting is transmitted to the UK. Chilworth also supports our brilliant and innovative new product, Sky Glass.
- Use our innovative CAFM system to provide timely routine maintenance (PPMs).
- Work in a business-critical environment on key infrastructure such as power generation, package chillers and Uninterruptible Power Supplies.
- Support the team in promoting Sky's safe, ethical, and environmental objectives.
- Flexibility is important as travel to other Sky sites is required as well as undertaking M&E activities occasionally out of normal working hours.
- Proven experience within M&E or the engineering field (qualified either by experience or qualification - see below)
- Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
- Technically minded with a willingness to learn new skills and procedures
- A technical qualification BTEC, ONC, City & Guilds or level 3 NVQ with a mechanical or electrical apprenticeship
- A good knowledge of maintaining and operating large LV electrical systems or large, chilled water-cooling systems in highly resilient buildings.
- Experience on Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs), PLCs, air conditioning (spilt systems), water treatment and fire alarms
- Working experience with computer-based systems such as email, CAFM system and BMS
- Ambitious and committed approach
- A solid understanding of good Safety and Environmental practices

What you’ll be doing:
The PNA is expected to apply specialist Naval Architectural knowledge in order to undertake engineering activities delegated by the Project Lead Engineer or Naval Architect in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements. Depending on the specific project that is being supported, the individual will be expected to lead, manage, assure or carry out the Naval Architecture input to the assigned project such as:

Assure drydockings of ships

Conduct ship stability/ hydromechanic analysis

Conduct structural design and analysis for various materials including metals and composites

Conduct design or material state surveys

Conduct or manage complex engineering change

Create or assure structural repair plans for metals or composites and support the periodical survey, repair and certification requirements of the Class including repair assurance activities and the collation/ creation of evidence and submissions for Naval Authority or Classification Society Certification

Ensure maintenance of Naval Architecture (including structures and outfit) design intent by understanding and promoting or enacting design compliance in their sphere of operations

Take action and collate evidence to ensure Naval Authority Key Hazard Certification is not compromised. Including identifying, and challenging design change that may cause invalidation of any of the Naval Authority Key Hazard Certificates in the Naval Architecture domain (covering Structural Strength, Stability and WTI, EER, Structural Fire Protection, Material Fire Safety)

Your skills and experiences:

Qualified to degree level, MEng in Naval Architecture /Marine Technology/ Ship Science is essential

Engineering material selection and use, particularly according to British Standards/ Euronorms/ Classification Society standards and Defence Standards

- Lead and manage a team of Product Safety and Environmental Engineers in their delivery of Product Safety & Environmental engineering to meet product technical requirements, customer requirements and the needs of the business

Your skills and experiences:
- Subject Matter Expert in the engineering discipline of System Safety. Requires technical breadth & depth in the discipline to be considered a System Safety SME able to support projects, programmes and contracts
- A deep understanding of and experience in product development through a development lifecycle and working to functional safety standards such as IEC 61508
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working within a Product Safety Management System (PSMS) within a complex systems environment. Some knowledge of creating, improving or tailoring a PSMS
- Degree qualified in Engineering/Systems/Safety or equivalent experience in a relevant Safety management discipline. Be a recognised member of a relevant industry wide body, e.g. SCSC, SaRS, IET, IMechE etc
- Hold significant/relevant knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (e.g. BS EN 61508, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055, HASAW, COSHH, REACH, etc .)
