Maintenance Apprentice

As a Maintenance apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience and formal training in electrical engineering. Under the guidance of experienced engineers and technicians, you will develop the practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to support the design, installation, maintenance, and improvement of engineering systems and equipment across the organisation. Throughout the apprenticeship you will receive day release to attend college whilst working towards your level 3 qualification. By gaining knowledge and training within different aspects of the role you will work your way up to become a skilled maintenance representative. You will be reviewed regularly throughout your apprenticeship with product and skills training and one-to-one mentoring from one of our experienced Maintenance Fitters.

This exciting new opportunity to launch your career in maintenance in the manufacturing sector and to develop your skills is part of Saint-Gobain Exterior Solutions (SGES) which is the new business unit for Kilwaughter and Weber. This is a full-time permanent role based in Flitwick.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in the maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical or electrical systems.

· Support engineers with installations, diagnostics, and fault finding.

· Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and schematics.

· Use hand tools, power tools, and specialist equipment under supervision.

· Participate in project work, including system upgrades and performance improvements.

· Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.

· Record and report tasks completed, problems encountered, and solutions applied.

· Attend college or training provider sessions as part of the apprenticeship programme.

· Complete all coursework and assessments in line with apprenticeship standards.

WHAT OUR APPRENTICE TOOLMAKERS DO:
  • Trouble shooting faults in the manufacturing process to determine whether there is a tooling problem requiring fix or repair
  • Repairing breakdowns of tooling
  • Maintaining equipment and tools
  • Reading technical drawings to manufacture/make parts and tools for the extrusion facilities and injection moulding
  • Using manual workshop machinery and CNC machinery
  • Making decisions about equipment safety and power

The Role

We are offering 2 people the opportunity to join our Property Services Team and train alongside our tradespeople to become a qualified Plasterer. The apprenticeship is a 2-year course aimed at a level 2 apprenticeship, where you will work alongside our tradespeople and attend college on either a day release or block release basis.

The purpose of the role is to assist in delivering property maintenance services in line with company standards and key performance indicators. Ensuring a high standard of work at all times, observing all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements while undertaking repair activities in both customer's homes and empty properties.

Candidates

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Property Services Team for a Level 2 apprentice Plasterer and for the right people we offer a 35-hour week, competitive salary, excellent contributory pension scheme, access to a health cash plan and 25 days holiday increasing to 30 days through length of service, in addition to the 8 public bank holidays. Southway is a living wage employer, and this is paid throughout the apprenticeship.

Our Apprenticeship Requirements

* You will be enrolled in a level 2 plastering apprenticeship which will last approximately 24 months.

* You must not have already completed a trade qualification in plastering or similar plastering qualification to be eligible.

* You must have a grade 4 or above in GCSE Mathematics and English.

* You must be a UK citizen or have the right to work in the UK. You also need to have been living in the UK or EEA for the past three years.

* Right to Work: You need to have the legal right to work in the UK, which can be demonstrated through citizenship or relevant immigration documentation.
