About Hinkley Point C

The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, Hinkley Point C will make a major contribution to the UKs move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two EPR reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

What you'll be doing

As a construction engineer you will support the Site Wide Workshops Operations project manager in the day to day engineering, Construction planning to understand the instillation of supports across the HPC site on behalf of the MEH Alliance.

  • Delegation of responsibilities to Construction Engineers/Works Coordination Leads. Lead, manage and motivate the team through implementation of best practice.

  • Produce the construction packs for the cutting, welding and coating of the
    supports.

  • Work with preconstruction to maintain 6 months rolling stock of supports
    and clamps based on programme.

  • Return any supports to warehouse that can not be installed within the
    agreed KPIs.

  • Support the Workshops Operations Manager with all reasonable
    requests.

  • Provide and demonstrate a positive HSE leadership, building a strong
    and compliant HS&E culture throughout the whole construction life cycle
    of the Project.

  • Ensure compliance with all nuclear safety and site license requirements


Who we're looking for

  • Degree in relevant discipline or HNC in relevant discipline or Relevant Experience along with Competency based Interview.

  • Able to obtain a security clearance.

The Job Mission:

This is a
site-based role (five days a week)
at one of the worlds largest and most advanced nuclear construction projects. You'll play a key part in mechanical construction assurance — supporting the safe, high-quality delivery of critical systems that will power millions of homes.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

What you will do

As a Project Construction Engineer (Electrical), you’ll be the vital link between our project engineering teams and the safe, high-quality execution of work on site. From issuing permits and safety paperwork, to planning daily activity and driving progress, you’ll ensure that what we build is built right – first time, safely, and efficiently.

This role involves daily liaison with contractors, planners, schedulers and SHE professionals, providing technical guidance and setting the tone for best practice on site. You’ll be a visible leader, conducting process confirmations, upholding high safety standards, and ensuring all work is delivered in line with project scope and schedule.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, supervising and coordinating daily site installation activities in collaboration with planners, schedulers, and contractors.
  • Ensuring all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Issuing work permits and safety documentation such as Permit to Work, Hot Work Certificates, Atmospheric Tests, and Access permits.
  • Troubleshooting issues on site and escalating any risks or delays as appropriate.
  • Monitoring quality of work, undertaking installation standards audits and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
  • Assist with commissioning of new plant and equipment, including developing commissioning plans, troubleshooting issues, and conducting I/O testing.


What you will need

  • You’ll hold an NVQ Level 4, BTEC HNC or a degree in an engineering discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a relevant industrial setting.
  • A strong understanding of electrical installation works and experience working with permit-to-work systems is essential.
  • You should have a solid knowledge of health and safety principles, ideally supported by a qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely.
  • A working knowledge of HVAC systems & fire alarm and protection systems would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Familiarity with project management processes and critical path analysis is important, along with excellent time management and communication skills.
  • You’ll need the confidence to challenge non-compliance and poor performance, and ideally, you’ll bring experience gained in a heavy industry environment, such as the steel sector.

Some of the main responsibilities of the HVAC Pre-Construction Engineer will include:

  • Develop and deliver construction work packs and documentation to support installation activities.
  • Coordinate and review design and technical information to ensure readiness for construction.
  • Carry out constructability reviews to identify workfronts and resolve potential issues early.
  • Define scope of works and liaise with subject matter experts to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Ensure all documents are accurate, up to date and compliant with project standards.
  • Support planning teams with scheduling, resource requirements and progress tracking.
  • Provide coordination across disciplines to manage interfaces and dependencies.


You’ll be at the heart of turning design into build – influencing construction readiness, solving problems before they become challenges, and seeing your work directly enable installation teams to deliver on schedule.


Preferred Profile:

  • Degree qualification in engineering or equivalent technical background (vocational or industry experience also considered).
  • Proven experience in construction engineering, ideally within large or highly regulated projects.
  • Previous hands-on experience with HVAC systems.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using engineering tools such as Navisworks and Excel.
  • A collaborative mindset with the confidence to liaise across teams and disciplines.
  • Safety awareness, holding or able to obtain relevant site safety passport.
  • Ability to achieve baseline security clearance.
  • Reside locally to Somerset or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

6.    Ensure documents are kept up-to-date and reviewed on a minimum 6 monthly basis

7.    Ownership and driving of deliverables from conception to A-Accepted status >90% first time accepted criteria

8.    Prioritisation and ownership of documentation to enable construction works as per the level 4 plan. E.g. T-3 months accepted prior to works

9.    Support continuous improvement programmes to improve process/procedures

10.   Directly report to the Building Manager or nominated deputy.

11.   Provide and demonstrate a positive HSE leadership, building a strong and compliant HS&E culture throughout the whole construction life cycle of the Project.

12.   Ensure compliance with all nuclear safety and site licence requirements

13.   Review and feedback on suitability of level of resource to effectively run the support function

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the procurement strategy defined by the Commodity Procurement
  • Management and the Projects Multi-Functional-Teams (MFT) within the scope of activity supporting Airbus divisions' needs.
  • Manage procurement projects and call for tenders with multi-divisional scope within the scope of the Building & Construction Team and international scope on demand, including within Building sub-commodity PJRB.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient supply chain capable of delivering goods/services, matching Airbus requirements and business objectives.
  • Ensure that deliverables are in line with the contractual terms (cost, time, quality).
  • Secure long-term alignment of the preferred supplier base with the long-term trans-divisional strategic needs of Airbus.
  • Ensure continuous commercial relationship with suppliers to secure work with best-in-class suppliers and protect Airbus from contractual risks.
  • Conduct the procurement process to fulfil business needs and provide the internal customers with valued services in compliance with the Airbus General Procurement procedures and guidelines, to full customers satisfaction.
  • Deliver on initiatives contributing to Airbus Savings Programmes using the levers of requirements harmonisation/standardization, challenge of the specifications, volume aggregation, and control of the demand.

Essential Skills

  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing and procurement lifecycle.
  • Expertise in running tenders (RFPs/RFQs) and supplier selection.
  • Ability to negotiate, establish, and manage frame contracts at both national and international levels.
  • Skills in supplier evaluation and development (performance, cost, quality, delivery).
  • Experience in supplier risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Proven capability in leading cross-functional and multi-divisional teams.
  • Strong project management skills to drive procurement initiatives end-to-end.
  • Stakeholder engagement skills to align internal customers' needs with procurement strategies.
