What will I be doing?
As a Train Cleaner, you will be carrying out a full clean on the interior of the train, which means you will be cleaning everything from the roof of the train to the bottom of the train, within public view. Typical duties include:
- Wiping down surfaces
- Sanitizing touch points
- Hoovering
- Mopping
- Dusting
- Cleaning & restocking the toilets
You will be working on a shift roster across Sunday to Saturday, working on a 4 on 4 off, 4 on 2 off basis. The working hours will be 20:45 – 05:30am.
What do we need?
- Be able to pass a Drugs & Alcohol test
- Be able to pass a full rail medical – this will include, sight, hearing, colourisation, heart, lungs, brain, etc…
- Be able to attend and pass 1 week of training, commencing on 15/09/2025
- Provide your Right to Work documents before deployment
- Happy to help mentality/attitude.

Ganymede Solutions are working with the largest UK Train Operating Company (currently posting revenues of over £.9Billion the last seven years), who are seeking to recruit a Train Cleaner to join the Train Presentation team based in their Littlehampton depot.
The company covers the Southeast, Greater London & East Anglia areas – this includes Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, London & Hertfordshire. As a result of this, they have a large fleet of trains – 516 to be precise, so it's safe to say you will be active & busy within your role!
Ganymede are looking to hire someone with a ‘go getter’ attitude who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and can lead a team by example.
The Role:
The role itself will consist of all aspects of train cleaner duties. This can include exterior cleaning, interior cleaning, hoovering the floors, inspecting/maintaining toilets, etc.
Hours wise, it is a 35-hour week role across a Sunday – Saturday roster, working hours of 21:30pm – 04:30am
You will be looking after the Southern train fleet which serves the Surrey & Sussex areas. Your role is mainly interior cleaning focused, but here and there you will have to do some basic exterior work also. There is one cleaner per 3 or 4 carriages, meaning you will be working in a team of 4 at most times.
Remuneration & Benefits:
This rail company has on offer the following for contract staff:
- £15.19p/h rate this will rise to 6.27p/h after your first 12 weeks due to AWR (Agency Worker Rights)
- Overtime is available at the Manager’s discretion, the rates are:
- Anything worked after hour 36 - £18.2 /h
- Rest Days worked - £19 4p/h
- Sundays worked - £22 2p/h
- Bank holidays worked - £30 7p/h
- Christmas holidays - £45 6p/h

Your role is mainly interior cleaning focused, but you will have to do exterior cleaning also. There is one cleaner per 3 or 4 carriages, meaning you will be working in a team of 4 at most times.
The depot itself is relatively large in its presence with a requirement to be physically fit to move around the depot with no restrictions.

- Clean rolling stock at Siemens Mobility depots or agreed locations with minimal supervision
- Conduct external cleaning of trains using manual methods

Job Title: Train Cleaning Operative
Location: Ardwick, Manchester
Contract Details: Fixed Term Contract (12 months)
Salary: 13.48 per hour (plus 150% overtime)

Responsibilities:
As a Train Cleaning Operative you will:
- Clean allocated rolling stock according to production schedules and local instructions
- Perform external cleaning of trains manually
- Use brushes or compressed air for driveline systems
- Assist with fuelling, tanking, and the operation of Controlled Emission Toilets (CET)
- Report any defects or safety issues to your Supervisor
- Follow site-specific guidelines for underframe cleaning
- Be ready to perform additional duties as required
Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):
- Basic understanding and communication skills in English
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH
- Experience with cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):
- Previous experience in a cleaning or maintenance role
- Familiarity with manual handling procedures
Technologies:
- Cleaning equipment and related chemicals
- Safety equipment as per regulations
