Ganymede Solutions are working with one of the largest UK Train Operating Companies (currently operating 464 stations, the most of any TOC in the UK), who are seeking to recruit a Train Cleaner to join the train cleaning team at Sheffield Station & Sidings. Ganymede Solutions are a stock market recognised recruitment agency, specialising in the transportation, infrastructure, construction and engineering sectors on both permanent and contract basis.

The company covers the whole of the North, which includes the Northeast & West of England, Yorkshire and the Humber, as well as the occasional part of the East Midlands and Staffordshire. As a result of this, they have a large fleet of trains – 333 to be precise, so it's safe to say you will be active & busy with your role!

Ganymede are looking to hire someone with a ‘go getter’ attitude who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and can lead a team by example.

The Role:

We are currently looking for an individual to join the night shift cleaning team as a Train Cleaner based at Sheffield Station & Sidings.

As a Train Cleaner, you will spend the first 2 – 3 hours of your shift carrying out turnaround cleans, which consists of a 15-minute walk through on the train, where you will pick up any litter, change the bins, sanitize the touch points, wipe down any surfaces and clean/restock the toilets, before the train begins its next service.

After this, you will then be doing daily cleans across the trains as they come into the station and sidings, carrying out the following duties such as:

  • Hoovering/dusting/sweeping
  • Mopping
  • Sanitizing touch points
  • Cleaning/restocking toilets
  • Cleaning graffiti
  • Changing bins
  • Picking up litter

You will be working on a 4 on 4 off/5 on 5 off shift pattern, with working hours being 20:00 – 06:00.

The Role:

As a Train Cleaner, you will be expected to carry out three types of cleaning, which is detailed below:

Deep/Heavy Cleans – Perform cleaning on areas of the train where it is not visible to the public eye on the interior of the train (as in pulling out seats, cleaning around panels, back of toilets, etc). Typical duties include hoovering, buffering, wiping down surfaces, cleaning toilets, changing bins, CET tanking and picking up litter.

Full Cleans – Similar to deep cleaning, this is to clean what is visible to the public eye, but it is only cleaning what is in the public’s view on the interior of the train. Typical duties include hoovering, buffering, wiping down surfaces, cleaning toilets, changing bins, checking the sanding levels and picking up litter.

External/Handbashing Cleans – Performing external cleaning on the outside of the train, such as applying cleaning solutions and using them to clean off any graffiti and dirt.

The Hours:

As a Train Cleaner, you will be guaranteed thirty-five hours of work a week, working five shifts across a Sunday – Saturday roster. There are two shifts, with one being from 22:00 – 05:00, and the other being 00:00 – 07:00. We need someone who is flexible to do both shifts and can work on weekends.

Remuneration & Benefits:

This rail company has on offer the following for contract staff:

  • Standard Hours (35 hours standard per week) - £13.85 p/h
  • Over me & Rest Days - 0.78 p/h
  • Sunday Nights - 4.24 p/h
  • Full PPE and comprehensive on-the-job training provided

Requirements:

  • Be able to pass a Drugs & Alcohol test
  • Provide your Right to Work documents before deployment
  • Happy to help mentality/attitude, someone who is proactive, can think for themselves

The depot itself is relatively large in its presence with a requirement to be physically fit to move around the depot with no restrictions.

The Hours:

Your roster works on a Monday - Friday basis with the working hours being from 22:00 – 05:00. However, any potential candidates must have the availability to work from 18:00 onwards as that is when overtime typically starts.

You will be looking after the Southern train fleet which serves the Surrey & Sussex areas. There is one cleaner per 3 or 4 carriages, meaning you will be working in a team of 4 at most times.

The depot itself is relatively big in its presence with a requirement to be physically fit to move around the depot with no restrictions.

Remuneration & Benefits:

This rail company has on offer the following for contract staff:

  • £15.19p/h rate this will rise to 6.27p/h after your first 12 weeks due to AWR (Agency Worker Rights)
  • Overtime is available at the Manager’s discretion, the rates are:

-    Anything worked after hour 36 - £18.2 /h

-    Sundays worked - £22 2p/h

-    Bank holidays worked - £30 7p/h

Daniel Owen Agency are currently looking for Mobile Deep Train Cleaners to join one of our leading clients in the rail sector. This is a night shift role covering multiple sites across Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke, and Salisbury . You will be part of a mobile team responsible for deep cleaning trains using professional equipment, helping to ensure a clean and safe environment for passengers. This is an excellent opportunity for reliable, hard-working individuals who are confident behind the wheel and comfortable working night shifts .



Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing thorough deep cleans on train carriages using industrial cleaning tools and products

  • Driving between sites in a company-provided van

  • Working to strict hygiene standards and adhering to all safety procedures

  • Communicating effectively with the cleaning supervisor and wider team

  • Ensuring vehicles and equipment are looked after and used correctly



What We're Looking For:

  • Age 25+

  • Full UK driving licence with no points (open to discussion)

  • At least 2 years of driving experience

  • Experience driving vans or similar vehicles

  • Previous experience in deep or industrial cleaning, using equipment (preferred)

  • Comfortable working night shifts and travelling independently across different sites

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to work
