This role offers the opportunity to lead complex bridge and structural design projects, manage multidisciplinary teams, and take full responsibility for the technical and financial delivery of assignments.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will take a key leadership role in the design, planning, and execution of civil and structural engineering projects. This includes overseeing the preparation of detailed designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, managing project schedules and budgets, and liaising directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of bridge and civil structure projects from concept through to construction.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Take ownership of project budgets, fee proposals, and programme management.
- Ensure all design work complies with health and safety regulations, environmental considerations, and relevant industry standards.
- Provide technical mentorship and supervision to junior team members, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Support business development efforts through technical input on proposals and bids.
- Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, and technical forums.
- Some travel, including overnight stays or weekend site visits, may be required.
Essential Attributes:
- Proven ability to manage teams and deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
- Strong communication and client relationship skills.

Desirable Experience:
- 5-8 years' experience in civil and structural engineering, ideally with a focus on bridges or infrastructure.
- Proficient in CAD standards and drawing production.
- Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Able to produce structured, accurate technical outputs with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable representing technical views to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Additional Skills (Advantageous):
- Strong leadership and project management capability.
- Familiarity with procurement and contract administration.
- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field (ICE-accredited).
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with ICE or an equivalent professional institution.
