THE ROLE

We are seeking a Data Governance Manager to lead and evolve our data governance strategy across NextEnergy Group as we transition to a new cloud data platform. This role will be pivotal in ensuring data integrity, compliance, and accessibility across our business units, enabling high-quality decision-making and supporting our mission to lead the transition to clean energy.

You will work closely with stakeholders across all business units, Legal & the Technology & Digital Services function to embed best practices and drive a culture of data stewardship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement an updated data governance framework aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate activities such as data quality assessments, data cataloguing, data lineage, data stewardship & data ethics
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure GDPR and other regulatory adherence, including overseeing the completion of DPIAs
  • Establish Data Owner roles across the organization and consequently act as a trusted advisor to them, being approachable and pragmatic to ensure that all risks related to data are raised & dealt with quickly
  • Work with various business stakeholders to understand their business requirements and consequent data needs, applying these to our data governance framework identifying risks & challenges
  • Monitor & report on the performance and compliance of data governance policies & metrics to identify & resolve any gaps or issues
  • Ensure a data risk framework is in place to capture, profile, risk assess & prioritise the remediation of data quality issues across the Group, working with the Data Owners to prioritise data related activities, ensuring outcomes are delivered to agreed standards and timelines.
  • Define and maintain data policies, standards, and procedures across the organisation
  • Communicate the importance of data governance and promote a data-driven culture within the organization.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Technology & Digital Services to ensure that our data architecture supports the data governance framework.
  • Ensure standardization of data definitions, formats, and metadata across the organization.

Data Governance Implementation Lead About the Role

We have an exciting new opportunity to join our Data Team as a Data Governance Implementation Lead

You will lead and manage the implementation of data governance strategy, policies and frameworks across the organisation to ensure data is accurate, secure, consistent, and compliant with regulatory standards. This role will work across business and technical teams to embed data ownership, data quality, metadata management, and stewardship practices.

We offer hybrid working; however, your presence will be required in our Bournemouth offices.

This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

Key Responsibilities
•    Develop, implement, and maintain the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, and metrics.
• Collaborate with business units and data owners to define data domains, data ownership models, and critical data elements (CDEs).
• Lead data governance councils and working groups to drive accountability and decision-making on data issues.
• Define and monitor data quality rules, ensuring adherence through tooling and exception management processes.
• Work with risk, compliance, and legal teams to ensure data practices align with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, BCBS 239, DORA).
• Oversee the data lineage, catalog and metadata management processes using tools such as Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, or Alation.
• Support the integration of governance practices within data platforms like Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and enterprise BI tools.
• Promote data literacy and training initiatives across the organisation.
• Provide audit and regulatory evidence as needed, including support for internal/external audits and data-related regulatory exams.
• Define and report on data governance KPIs and maturity models to senior leadership.
• Responsible for Data Governance Team Budget.
• Manages small team. 

About You
• Proven experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles in a financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of data-related regulations (e.g., GDPR, FCA Handbook, BCBS 239, Solvency II, MiFID II, DORA).
• Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation). Purview preferred 
• Understanding of data architecture, data modelling, and data integration technologies.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence at senior and executive levels.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
Desirable but not essential 
• Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and modern data stacks.
• Familiarity with data frameworks such as DCAM, DAMA-DMBOK, or CDMC.
• Certifications: CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), Collibra Ranger, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals.
