A day in the life of a Days Shift Engineer
Here at Purina we are moving to a line centric approach to help create efficiencies with our production. This role is a key role for the factory; working as part of an integrated Engineering team, ensuring maintenance activities are carried out whilst complying with all relevant Health and Safety Legislation and site standards. This role is responsible for a defined set of production assets in terms of the engineering strategy to support in driving your area to world class performance levels in safety, quality, cost and service.
Other key responsibilities:
- To maintain the basic condition of the machines by means of reactive, preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
- Driving a safe culture and eliminate safety risks.
- Empowering and inspiring people by supporting the production team and developing their capability.
- Ensure all work is completed to a good engineering standard following GMP and safe systems of work at all times.
- Participate and support the Autonomous and Maintenance Working Groups to drive improvement through the implementation of following tools: inspections, abnormalities identification, centre lining, breakdown analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Drive continuous excellence and continuous improvements in the key operational business processes throughout manufacturing.
What Will Make You Successful
To be successful in this key role we expect you to ideally have experience working in a FMCG manufacturing maintenance environment maybe as a Technician, Shift Engineer or a Maintenance Engineer and have strong service orientation amongst internal stakeholders with lots of proactive initiative and passion for continuous improvement.
Other key attributes we are looking for are:
- Ideally educated to apprenticeship level NVQ 3 or hold a recognised engineering qualification.
- Demonstrate mechanical comprehension & food safety/Food handling awareness.
- Ability to understand and adhere to strict hygiene rules.
- Experience in Planned Preventative asset Maintenance.
- Experience in Root Cause Analysis tools/problem solving methodology.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing tools including TPM.
- Demonstrates understanding of Continuous Improvement and cost awareness.
- Data analysis and understanding of performance indicators.
- Demonstrate that you are a real team player.

This is a day shift role. Salary will be up to 40,000 (depending on experience) + 2,220 annual bonus based on plant performance (maximum amount).

+ Carry out any mechanical (bias) electrical repairs (based on capability) required by engineering leadership group or zonal specialists
+ Action any problems with production machines likely to affect production/operator, or machines defects likely to make the machine unsafe to work

The Business;
The business are a precision machining business, supplying 5 axis parts into the motorsport and high-end automotive industry. They specialise in jig and fixture component machining, as well as assembly of these complex jigs. They have multiple sites, but this one is working from their Milton Keynes precision machining site.
The role;
You will be working on a busy shopfloor on state-of-the-art Fanuc controlled milling machines, mainly machining different metallic materials from billet. The role will involve setting the tooling and operating the CNC mills, so the CAM program will be created offline and ready for you to run. You will do some initial visual and hand tool inspections before the finished part is sent to the CMM to be measured!
What is required;
- 5 Axis milling experience
- Fanuc control experience is an essential
- Knowledge of working to tight tolerances and one offs - small batch machining

- To schedule Deep cleaning of large machinery
- Wearing full PPE such as : Chemical suit, Visor, Wellingtons, Gloves and Safety goggles
- Working in Chilled and Hot environments
- Filling out Paperwork to document the cleans
- Promote good health and safety culture within the work place
- Use of/ and storage of chemicals
- Reporting of any damaged equipment or machinery.
